#TwirlerTuesday Featuring the Golden Girls from Pitt
This week for #TwirlerTuesday, we are introducing you to the ladies who take on Heinz Field every Saturday and twirl together alongside the University for Pittsburgh Marching Band. “The University of Pittsburgh Golden Girls consist of many nationally ranked solo twirlers. The Golden Girls perform at all the Panther home football games and various University and civic events. We have proudly captured the NBTA “Grand National/World College half-time” title four times. The Golden Girls have been an esteemed portion of the University of Pittsburgh Marching Band for 41 years, and are continuing the tradition of holding the position as the University’s “Glitz and Glamour” today. E Michael Baldauf, Jessica Kennedy, and Lindsey Brett are our instructors and coreographers. This year, E Michael is celebrating his 25th year with the squad. Carley Colello is one of our freshmen. She is majoring in rehabilitation science on the physical therapy track. “I love twirling for Pitt because the Golden Girls are extremely welcoming and there’s no other city like Pittsburgh. I love the university I twirl for and the girls I get to twirl with.”
Julie Charlebois is a sophomore English writing major with a focus on fiction writing. “My favorite memory twirling for Pitt is the parade before the Military Bowl last year. There was so many Pitt fans that were cheering for us, even though we were far from Pittsburgh. It was so cool to march through historic Annapolis, leading Pitt Band.”
Megan Delligatti is a junior rehabilitation science major and section leader of the squad this year. After graduating, she plans on earning her Master’s degree to become a Physician Assistant. “My favorite memory of being a Golden Girl was twirling fire baton my freshman year for our Rocky show! It was my first time ever performing with fire and it was awesome to get to do it at Heinz Field in front of thousands of people!”
Gabrielle Levy is a freshman nursing major at Carlow University. “I love twirling for the University of Pittsburgh because it allows me to continue my passion for baton twirling, and also making unforgettable memories with the Golden Girls. My favorite memory being a part of Pitt Band so far would be my first football game. There’s has been no greater feeling than running out of those tunnels through the smoke for the first time.”
Sydney Gabriel is a sophomore occupational therapy major. “My favorite memory is running out of the tunnel for the first time freshman year and getting to perform at Heinz field.”
Alexis Hensel is a sophomore communication science and disorders major. She plans on earning her Master’s degree in speech language pathology after completing her undergraduate career. “My favorite memory was the entirety of the Penn State game. I have never seen so many people cheering for Pitt. It made me so proud to be a part of this university and this band, and it is a memory I will truly never forget.”
Kara Roessler is a freshman at CCAC studying nursing. “My favorite memory at Pitt was the first time twirling outside of Heinz Field for the pregame concert.”
Sarah Drain is a freshman at Duquense University and is dual majoring in economics and international business. “I remember my first time on Heinz Field, I was so nervous to run out for pregame, I was shaking. I remember running out of the smoke filled tunnels and seeing all of the fans in the stand. I have never been so proud to represent Pitt.”
Megan Rosenberger is a sophomore nursing major. “My favorite memory twirling for Pitt was running out of the tunnel the first time and getting to twirl on Heinz Field with my best friends!”
Kelsey Belko is a sophomore majoring in Biology. “My favorite memory twirling for Pitt was running out of the tunnel at Heinz field for the first time and hearing the crowd go wild for the band.”
