Two Members of Marching Band Killed in Florida School Shooting

As the victims of yesterday’s school shooting were revealed to the public today the band community found itself grieving heavily. Two members of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School band program were among the 17 students killed in the school shooting.

Alex Schachter was a 14-year-old freshman trombone player in the Eagle Regiment and Gina Montalto, also 14 and a freshman, a member of the winter guard.

“Our beautiful daughter, Gina Rose, was taken from us during the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School,” Jennifer Montalto wrote on facebook, mother to Gina. “She was a smart, loving, caring, and strong girl who brightened any room she entered.”

Alex’s father, Max Schachter, explained to the New York Times that he was a “sweetheart of a kid” and “just wanted to do well and make his parents happy.”

Our hearts are broken for the Eagle Regiment and the families of all those lost or injured in this horrific tragedy.

To support the band donations are being taken by the FFCC. As of this publishing 78 donors have already given over $2500 to the relief fund. You can make a donation HERE
