It’s only week one and huge halftime shows are already being lined up. Wake Forest’s and Winston-Salem State University’s bands will perform together in a monster halftime show at Wake Forest’s home opener against Utah State on Friday, August 30 at BB&T Field.
According to a press release sent out by Wake Forest, this combined performance marks the first time the two bands have performed in concert with each other in the history of the two schools. Winston-Salem will perform first then will be joined by Wake Forest on the field. Wake Forest will then wrap up the halftime show on their own to welcome their fans back for another great season.
“This will be a historic moment as the Red Sea of Sound and the Spirit of the Old Gold and Black come together on Opening Night at BB&T Field,” said Wake Forest Director of Athletics John Currie. “The spirit of collaboration between Dr. Tim Heath, our brand new Director of Athletic Bands, and Winston-Salem State’s Dr. Michael Magruder has led us to this partnership. Dr. Hatch and Chancellor Elwood Robinson are close friends who have long worked together to better serve Winston-Salem and we are excited to welcome all of our friends and neighbors to Opening Night.”
In addition, as part of the Wake Forest Fan Ambassador Program 1,000 tickets have been purchased for the Opening Night to be provided free of charge to Winston-Salem State University students, faculty and staff.
“It is exciting to bring both the Red Sea of Sound and The Spirit of the Old Gold and Black together for what promises to be a historic and fun-filled event,” said Wake Forest Director of Athletic Bands Dr. Tim Heath. “I believe bringing both bands together will provide a great opportunity for fellowship and collaborative music-making. We hope this event will further unite the city of Winston-Salem through the spirit of music.”
“We’re thrilled to be invited to perform during Wake Forest’s home opener,” Winston-Salem State University Director of Bands Dr. Michael Magruder said. “Deacon fans better get ready because when the Red Sea takes the field, they can expect to be entertained.”
This will surely be a night band members and fans will remember forever.
